With online video the possibilities are endless! From short clips on how to use databases or library equipment and how to research, through to longer clips on events the library has or celebrations or any number of activities, guides etc. The sky is the limit.

Gettin' Wiki With It

What did you find interesting?

I find it interesting that so many wiki's that have a similar theme to them can be so different and still fascinating to look through.

What types of applications within libraries might work well with a wiki?

The book review ones would be great to make customers aware of - so many people ask for opinions on so many books we often can't find someone on staff who has read them! Also for co-ordinating meetings or even parties and group activities through to updating people o ntechnologies and getting feed-back from staff on how things are working.

What do you like about RSS and newsreaders?

Such a great idea for getting updates on the places abd things you need for work and play.

What sites did you select for your RSS reader?

Selected the Powerhouse Image of the Day (of course) and Librarian.net to get some library related news. Picked the NY Times book list, could deffinately be handy and also the Rotten Tomatoes film site for a quick reference as we often get asked what movies are like. For a bit of fun I chose the Urban Legends site - I love that stuff.

How do you think you might be able to use this technology in your work?

I think in a few ways. Could be helpful with the latest updates in technology and process which could improve our working environment and the way we do things. Very helpful also when dealing with the public, just to be able to say something about a book or a movie and then have a site you could send people to.

Tower of London

I have very fond memories of the Tower of London, odd since it has such a grusome history!

I remember going on a tour of London with my little brother when we were in our early 20's. We'd had so many arguments about sleeping arrangements and food and tourist sites that we almost couldn't stand each other anymore - it was like we were kids again. Anyway we went 'round the tour of London and my brother started asking so many questions and I knew the answers! He was astounded! So he kept asking and I kept telling him about everything I knew from the "princes in the tower" and Richard the III to Henry VIII to Lady Jane Gray and so on. I think that visit saved that trip and we've been so much closer ever since.

Also my brother took this lovely photo of me walking through a big archway. It's only my back but I have a tartan skirt and cap and look like part of that ye olde time place!

What do you hope to learn from the program?

Hope to learn more about different ways to use the internet - blogging, flickr and all these things I've never heard of!

What do you think about Lifelong Learning?

I think it is something everyone should be doing in any field - you never "get old" if you keep learning!
What other blogs have you discovered?

My friends blogs; I didn't even know they had them!

What do you like about them?

Makes it easy to catch up with people I never see.

Can you see a use for blogs inside the Library?

I can see many uses. Promoting events or new technologies or even just updates for staff on recent developements or more personal anecdotes like who's had a baby or gotten married or retiring. I see it as a way to keep up to date and informed in many different ways.

How about blogging for a client audience?

It would be great as you can be as specific or as broad as you like!
